First of all thank you for your letter of a month ago and please forgive my delay in replying but I have just had to write over 100 letters!
Although I can't understand "Gardening Makes Towns Prosperous" I have read your letter careful and I am full of admiration for the detailed and excellent way in which you have unfolded the history of N.G.S. Japan. Thank you so much for sending me a copy of your book and also for the newspaper article - what a lovely photograph.
I am always interested to hear news of N.G.S. Japan so when you have time drop me an e-mail or let us speak when you visit in December.

What a wonderful surprise it was to receive the parcel with your new book in it. You must be congratulated for producing such a fantastic publication in such a short period of time and no doubt all credit to your excellent organisational skills.
The headings that you translated for me make fascinating reading and I only wish that I could read Japanese to be able to appreciate what you've written in all the various chapters. It is very flattering that you have referred to The National Trust, not least my involvement, and I am very happy to have assisted in a tiny way in providing some ideas to you. It very much does seem from what you have written, that the NGS will indeed be the thread that runs through the gardening tradition in Japan and I wish you all the very best with realising that ambition.
I was interested to read in your translated introduction how the concept of the NGS is broadening and it does seem that you are thinking very broadly. Supporting historic gardens is a noble and extremely worthwhile cause especially in terms of caring for the cultural value of gardens in Japan. Owning a garden is a completely different matter altogether and one that would involve enormous financial implications. Perhaps you were thinking of the future when the funding of the NGS in Japan was more stable.
For now, it is wonderful that you have launched the initiative in Japan aiming at drawing attention to Japan's important garden heritage and I am sure that your work will go from strength to strength. Thank you again for kindly sending me a copy of your wonderful book and your excellent translation I very much hope that it sells very well in Japan and I look forward to hearing further news of the NGS in due course.
